UMF: Do You Have What It Takes?

One question I get a lot is, "How do you pick the anglers for Ultimate Match Fishing?" Well, there are a lot of qualities that the Outdoor Channel Producers and I look at when selecting fishermen for UMF. The first is obviously their tournament history. We typically only choose anglers from the top two pro circuits, the Bassmaster Elite Series and the FLW Tour.

The second thing we look at is personality. UMF is a personality driven show and we need competitors who are able show their emotions on camera! We also like a variety of anglers. We try to pick both young anglers and older veterans. We have ones who are household names as well as little known up and comers.

Finally, we like guys guys who are hard core competitors because their passion, tenacity and desire to win really comes across on the show. Not to mention the fact that those are the guys who give our referee Mark Randolph the most grief over his calls and everyone knows I like it when Mark catches heat!

Who would you like to see on UMF?  Remember, one comment per day per person is another entry to win two Lucky Craft lures!

  3. I do like to watch The UMF because of all the reasons you mention you use to select the competitors, but I often wondered how some of the Gals would stand up in the Competition.
I would like to see a Lady Angler in the competition. I don't have any particularly Lady in mind, right now, but I guarantee ya I would enjoy watching the show just as much as I always do.

  4. What would I like to see is a pro vs random small tournament anglers scenario. It would be interesting to see in a bracket scenario a upset. Also Brandon Palaniuk would be nice to see. Give me a shot Id love to go head to head against Denny Brauer a fellow Missouri resident. I wouldnt mind getting him stirred up a bit. :)

  6. Consider Elite Series pro J. Todd Tucker. He's been a local & regional top gun. His versatility is starting to show this season. Put him on a new body water, and the results may surprise the UMF crew!

  9. I'd like for you to consider adding Fred Roumbanis to your show. I've fished with him at Amistad (Elite) and at the recent PAA All Star tournaments. He may live in OK now, but's he a California kid through and through. I think Dude is his favorite word. He's a great competitor and I know that he would be a great addition to your cast of pros. Thanks.

  10. This may not be typical of UMF but I bet Fish vs Zona would be good entertainment. That's a lot of crazy people in one boat.

  12. Joe is stihl Ready for a Shoot out with Davy Hite and Cashley Ashley on Lake Greenwood, in South Carolina. A small lake, plenty of people watching, and see if the Old Man can take down the Young Buck. Cashey may even sing Davey a song while he is kicking his bottom.

Joe is Ready to cheer! It want be no Stihl waters with those two.

  15. You need to bring back Ike. He never shows any emotion. LOL

  16. I'd like to see you bring back Rich Tauber. In episode 101 he made the show so funny with "Fish I need my line, my lines gone, fish get my lure!" and the fact the Joe fell in made it one of our favorites.

    Kevin, Mendy, Jena and Denny

  17. I've heard of a club called the Georgia Peaches Bass Club, there has to be some Ladies in that club that could take on some of you Cavemen at the Bass Fishing Sport. Oh but that would hurt for a Guy to get beat by "woman".

  18. Gotta admit I like seeing some of the old veterans on the show - Brauer, Clunn, etc. Ike & Swindle both have great personality. What about dragging Bill Dance and Roland Martin out of retirement for a head to head duel? Add in Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker and Al Lindner, now you have entertainment.

  19. I would like to see Jarrett Edwards. He's kind of quiet, but the guy can fish.

I would also love to see Charlie Moore on as well.

I agree with crookedarrow. Zona vs Fish would be all time and with JDS, VanDam squared would be fun to watch.

  20. Ok. I thought more about it. I wanna see UMF Classic. Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker, Al Linder, Grigsby, Brauer, and the rest of the pioneers. It would be awesome to watch the geezer edition.

If nothing else a Houston v Zona.

Denny B vs. Chad B, Dad vs. Son, would be a hoot.
Mark Menendez is a guy I have always respected.
